Suzette started out as a paediatric intensive care nurse and progressed through her career to being one of the leading experts in patient safety both nationally and internationally.
Suzette is an authority on a breadth of patient safety concepts and theories; safety II, incivility, psychological safety and a just culture. She is now freelance after having worked in the NHS for 40 years, and specialised in patient safety for over two decades. Former roles include Executive Board member for the National Patient Safety Agency and NHS Resolution, National Clinical Director for the Sign up to Safety Campaign and Senior Policy Advisor for the Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC).
She has always strived to consider patient safety from every angle, what it means for patients, their families and loved ones as well as the staff who care for them. Suzette has a Masters in Clinical Risk and a Doctorate in Patient safety, is a Visiting Professor for the Institute of Global Health Innovation at Imperial College University London and has an Honorary Doctor of the University of West London.
She is author of a blog, numerous articles and two books; Rethinking Patient Safety and Implementing Patient Safety.
