Prof. Murray Anderson-Wallace has a clinical background in mental health services and psychological therapy, but has spent most of his career specialising in the social psychology of organisation and applied communications research.
He is visiting professor at the Health Systems Innovation Unit at London South Bank University, where he co-leads the Darzi Clinical Fellowship Programme. For the last five years he has also taught a module on “Power & Professionalism” as part of the MSc in Quality and Safety Improvement at the University of Nottingham.
Murray has undertaken a number of independent case reviews in the NHS, and acted as a special advisor on inquiries in the public sector and with non-governmental organisations (NGOs). He was Deputy Chair of the Independent Inquiry into Workplace Culture at Save the Children.
He is the Independent Chair of the Healthcare Safety Investigation Branch (HSIB) Advisory Panel and a long standing campaigner for improvements in the quality of response after healthcare harm. He regularly supports people during serious incident investigations and represents families as an advocate in coronial proceedings.
Murray’s practice has also included work as an independent editor, writer and presenter, producing media to stimulate debate about complex professional and ethical issues. He is the Executive Producer of www.patientstories.org.uk and co-author of Networks in Healthcare: Managing Complex Relationships (Emerald) and Quality in Healthcare: Questioning the Work for Effective Change (Sage)
